Join FOX 29’s Dr. Mike Cirigliano at the Sjögren’s Syndrome Foundation 2012 Philadelphia Tri-State Sjögren’s Walkabout, Saturday, May 5th, at the Philadelphia Zoo, 3400 West Girard Avenue. Registration begins at 8:30am and the Walk starts at 10am. All event participants will receive free entry to the zoo.
Sjögren’s is a chronic autoimmune disease in which people’s white blood cells attack their moisture-producing glands. Today, as many as four million Americans are living with this disease. Learn more about Sjögren’s and other autoimmune diseases. Bring your health related questions to ask Dr. Mike! There will be health exhibitions, food, music, and face painting. The mission of the Sjögren’s Syndrome Foundation is to educate patients and their families about Sjögren’s syndrome, increase public and healthcare provider awareness, and encourage research to find better treatments and a cure.

American Liver Foundation’s Annual Liver Life Walk
Join FOX 29’s Karen Hepp at the American Liver Foundation’s Annual Liver Life Walk, Saturday, May 12th, in front of the Please Touch Museum, 4231 Avenue of the Republic in Philadelphia. Karen will serve as emcee. Registration begins at 7am and the walk kicks off at 8:30am.
The Walk will bring much needed awareness and financial support to the needs of millions of Americans who are battling more than 100 different types of liver disease. Money raised by Liver Life Walk participants provides critical funding for medical research, public education, patient support services, and advocacy.

Heroes of Hope, One Step Closer to a Cure Brain Cancer Research 5K Run
Join FOX 29’s Chris O’Connell at the Heroes of Hope, One Step Closer to a Cure Brain Cancer Research 5k run, Saturday, May 12th, at Ridley Creek State Park, 1023 Sycamore Mills Road in Media, PA. The race will begin at pavilions 11A and 11B. Chris will serve as emcee. Registration begins at 7:30am and the run will begin at 9am.
Registration: $35 to run or $25 to walk. Results and awards will be held at 10:15am following the run. The 5k run is in memory of Sean R. Curry. In early October 2007, Sean unexpectedly had a seizure and was rushed to the hospital. Upon a brain scan, doctors found a brain tumor and had to operate immediately. The doctors removed the tumor which tested positive for Glioblastoma multiforme, cancer. The tumor was removed but unfortunately the tentacles had attached to other brain cells. Sean underwent intense radiation and chemotherapy. Unfortunately, Sean passed away on April 26th, 2009. Sean had an infectious personality and many who loved him. Through your support, we can get “One Step Closer to a Cure”!

The After Party is 10:30pm to 1:30am. Sue Serio will serve as emcee. This special evening brings together hundreds of supporters to enjoy a cocktail party, silent & live auction, gourmet dinner, desserts created by five of the region’s most notable pastry chefs, and an after party.

A Perfect Fit: Fashioning Future for Women
Join FOX 29’s Kerry Barrett, Jennaphr Frederick, Karen Hepp, and Sue Serio at “The Career Wardrobe” annual fundraising event, “A Perfect Fit: Fashioning Future for Women,” June 7th, 6 to 9pm, at Park Hyatt at the Bellevue, 200 South Broad Street in Philadelphia.
The ladies will serve as models wearing professional attire and they will then donate the clothing to the Career Wardrobe. The Career Wardrobe is the nation’s largest independent, community-based non-profit organization serving women transitioning into the workforce by providing professional attire. Since 1995, the Career Wardrobe has assisted nearly 70,000 women by inspiring the confidence necessary to achieve independence.
