The owner of the Whigham Funeral Home in Newark says Houston's funeral will be held at noon at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, where she first showcased her singing talents as a child.
TMZ said the funeral service would be private with about 300 guests.
The funeral home said that no wake would be held and that there would be no public memorial at Newark's Prudential Center, the sports arena that the family had discussed as a possible venue.
Houston was found dead in her hotel room in Beverly Hills on Feb. 11. Her body was returned to New Jersey late Monday.
Houston's body arrived by private jet at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey on Monday night.
The singer died Saturday at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel.
Church services are expected to take place at the New Hope Baptist Church, where Houston began her singing career in the church choir. She was born in Newark and was raised in nearby East Orange.
As final burial preparations are made for Houston, there are still many questions as to what exactly killed her.
FOX's Claudia Cowan reported from Hollywood that the singer was discovered in her bathtub at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel by members of her staff. She was reportedly unconscious and unresponsive when paramedics arrived.
The Los Angeles coroner's office said prescription drugs were found in her hotel room. They stayed tight-lipped about reports that her death could have been caused by mixed drug use or even drowning.
An autopsy was performed Sunday.
Authorities said there would be more answers once they received toxicology results, which could take as long as eight weeks. A preliminary report could be released as early as Wednesday.
