Gosselin, 34, was on the “Today Show” in her first public appearance since separating from Jon Gosselin.
Behind the scenes, the Sun-Times say Gosselin became upset about questions from Vieira about her marriage.
''She was swearing like a drunken sailor as she stormed out,'' one source told the newspaper.
The long-time staffer called Gosselin ''a total b----'' and “one of the most unpleasant (guests) I've seen in working here for many years.''
The paper said Gosselin also threatened to cancel the interview when her entourage was almost caught on camera.
The Sun-Times said an NBC spokesperson disputed the account,
saying "Kate Gosselin was a gracious guest on 'Today,' and
anyone within 1,000 feet of her at the show this morning could tell
you that."
On camera, Kate Gosselin told Vieira her husband’s
account of their breakup isn’t accurate, but would not say
how Jon's account was wrong.
Gosselin appeared in two extensive interviews, her first since the couple separated.
The reality TV star chided Jon Gosselin for how his relationship with Hailey Glassman is hurting his children.
But Gosselin, 34, would not elaborate on how Glassman had affected her family.
“I was shocked. Those things – to be very honest it is his life – they don’t affect me directly,” Gosselin said when asked by Glassman.
“To be very honest, the most hurtful part is when his decisions directly affect our children. … I feel like they are his decisions, those are not ones I would not make.”
Kate Gosselin also cried when she explained how she told her children about the divorce.
She also said that Jon Gosselin’s claim that Kate dumped him last October wasn’t true, but she also would not say when Jon left the Gosselin estate.
When asked if Jon Gosselin had moved out of the house by May, Kate said, “To be very honest, I don’t remember. There was so much going on.”
Kate Gosselin would also not confirm other details about the breakup that Jon spoke about in his first interview last week, with In Touch Weekly magazine.
“Clearly, we have completely different takes on what happened between us,” Kate Gosselin said. “I feel that the details of that for the sake of my kids need to remain private.”
During the interview, Gosselin repeatedly used the word “honest” and said the couple split because they had different goals.
She also had harsh words for her brother Kevin Kreider and sister in law Jodie, who have been very critical of Kate.
“That probably is one of the most hurtful things about this, when family turns on you, makes up lies, makes allegations and makes tens of thousands of dollars doing it,” she said.
“This is a brother I was very, very close to who became
jealous.”
Jon Gosselin, 32, told In Touch Weekly, in his first
post-Kate interview, that Kate Gosselin told him they were getting
divorced back in October 2008, just weeks after the couple
re-staged their wedding in Hawaii.
Gosselin told In Touch that he sought advice from self-help books and tried counseling, but that Kate Gosselin wanted no part of marital therapy.
He told In Touch he first left the Gosselin estate in January 2009 after he returned from a trip to Utah.
Gosselin also told In Touch the divorce will be final on
September 30, on year after the couple decided to split.
He also said he won't introduce Glassman to his eight kids
until his divorce is final.
Jon Gosselin is legally married to but separated from Kate
Gosselin, 34, the mother of their eight children.
The couple has agreed to raise the children at their Berks County home, but each parent spends time by themselves (with some hired help) with the children.
