It was the episode of "Jon & Kate Plus 8" everyone was waiting to see for themselves when the Gosselins separated on their TLC reality show in May.
But before the drama viewers watched as their eight children received pricey, new playhouses.
Interest in those "Crooked Houses" – which start at $1,400 and go up to $5,600, not including the paint job – soared online after that television appearance.
Now, a Montgomery County carpenter says his Narberth company has been building playhouses like that for years and at a fraction of the cost. And he's even giving one away to charity.
"Apparently, I've been giving them away for years," Bill Hillman of Hillman Carpentry told Fox 29's Jennaphr Frederick.
Hillman joined "Good Day Philadelphia" Monday morning live from Gladwyne with one of his Kinder Huts.
Hillman said it takes about a day to build one of his Kinder Huts. They're custom made, painted and delivered for at least $500 less. They do it in part by using recycled building materials, he explained.
