PHILADELPHIA - It's a story that many of you will remember: A local woman, stripped of her beloved cupcake truck.
But she's not done yet!
That's the word from our friends at the Philadelphia Business Journal. Associate Editor Frank Devlin joined "Good Day" Friday morning to give us the latest on this story.
Inspectors from the city's Department of Licenses & Inspection drove off with Kate Carrara's truck recently after it made a stop in University City near Drexel University's campus. Apparently, Carrara didn't have the exact permit she needed to be at that spot.
Her husband then had to pay $200 to get the truck back, and Carrara was back selling cupcakes the next day.
Devlin reports, "It seems like she's still making a lot of stops, but somewhere down the road she would like to transition to more traditional means of (selling) ’ It's not her bakery, but she's selling cupcakes out of a bakery in West Philadelphia. She'd like to do that. And she wants to open what she's calling 'cupcake kiosks' maybe in the spots she hits now ’ Love Park, some other places. And that way she won't have to worry so much about is she in the right spot, is she having trouble parking or finding a space and that kind of thing."
Carrara ’ who uses Twitter to tell customers where her truck will be next ’ has spoken out about Philadelphia's tendency to over regulate makes it tough in this economy.
But Devlin said, "Some of the people who drive trucks similar to Carrara's think that they might have run afoul of the authorities by some of the other truck drivers who have their permits and have their established areas."
Devlin noted that Carrara has 4,500 Twitter followers, "And they seem to hang on her every tweet to see where she's going to be."
