Keep Your Hair, Use Your Blood

Radical New Hair-Loss Treatment Gains Popularity

PHILADELPHIA - Men and women will do just about anything to save their hair.

On Thursday morning, we were learning on "Good Day" that the secret to a full thick head of hair might come from your own plasma.

Apparently you can inject a plasma-based treatment into your hair follicle.

Dr. Jo from the Fox Medical Team explained how it works. She said there are two kinds of fluid that are carefully removed.

The first is PRP, short for platelet-rich plasma, which contains stem cells, growth factors and cell fragments used in clotting.

The second is platelet-poor plasma. It typically goes to waste. But by using filters, Dr. Greco creates a super-concentrated solution called Orogen.

These treatments are not cheap. Each one can cost up to $1,000, and it's not covered by insurance.
