Sestak Wants Obamas To Stump For Him

Rep. Says He Hasn't Launched Any Ads Yet

PHILADELPHIA - Congressman Joe Sestak said Monday that he's looking forward to President Barack Obama coming to Pennsylvania to campaign on his behalf.

The Pennsylvania Democrat said on "Good Day" Monday morning, "I would have him in, in a heartbeat, and I am sure he will soon be here -- just like I want Michelle Obama to come here."

Sestak explained that, while other candidates are shying away from appearances with the president, he wants his public support.

"Pennsylvanians aren't going to make up their mind on just who comes in," the retired Navy admiral said. "They're going to look at the two alternatives they have. And they have a great choice this time. I've served my country for 31 years in the Navy. We don't breed conservatives or liberals we breed problem solvers."

Sestak pledged to create jobs and cut taxes for the middle class. He says his opponent, former Congressman Pat Toomey, "has a different set of values than us."

Sestak says a top concern is Toomey's opposition to a financial reform bill and his suggestion to end Social Security: "We would have had 20 million seniors move into poverty if his plan had succeeded."

Sestak pledged to fight for the middle class, "those who actually have perspiration when they work."

The idea of building a mosque near the site of the 911 attacks is a constitutional right that is "a New Yorkers' issue to resolve." Sestak said whatever the decision "It must adhere to the constitution."

A recent Rasmussen poll found Toomey leading Sestak 46 percent to 37 percent.
