PHILADELPHIA - We've all seen couriers that use bicycles to get around the city. Well, how about a recycling truck on a bike?
Amy Wilson of the Pedal Co-Op, based in Center City Philadelphia, explained that it's a way for clients to be greener and more environmentally sound.
"They're interested in making a statement that they're recycling and that they're doing it by bike instead of using the diesel trucks," Wilson told "Good Day" on Thursday morning.
The co-op does hauling, delivery to compost sites and more all on their bicycles and trailers in hopes of doing less damage to the environment and streets along with little noise pollution.
"Actually, it's kind of ironic because sometimes we end up right in back of those diesel trucks on the road," Wilson said.
She wakes at 5:30 a.m., does her first round at 6:15 a.m., and said, "Sometimes I'm riding all day, and sometimes it's shorter."
Wilson said even some of the people who contract with them are sometimes surprised to see them in action and how it works once they show up.
"Yeah, we do get comments. We do," Wilson said.
If you see one of the co-op's riders on the streets, Wilson said, "Give us a wave."
