PHILADELPHIA - Facing a possible major budget shortfall, top administrators from the School District of Philadelphia will meet Friday to try and figure things out.
The Inquirer is reporting that Superintendent Arlene Ackerman has asked those top officials to come up with contingency plans with spending cuts up to 30 percent. They will discuss those plans Friday.
The district is expected to lose millions in state aid and stimulus money. That means they could be looking at a deficit as big as $430 million for the next fiscal year.
Critics say the state-run School Reform Commission and others knew this day of reckoning was coming but did nothing about it.
Helen Gym, Parents United for Public Education, joined "Good Day" on Friday morning to discuss the district's financial position and what impact it could have on classrooms and communities.
