Local Philadelphia eating legend El Wingador came out of retirement to try to take back his Wing Bowl crown in a record-setting event.
Bitter rivals El Wingador (aka Bill Simmons) and "Super" Squibb went into overtime in front of more than 20,000 fans.
But Squibb rallied to take the title for the third year in a row, beating El Wingador by just one wing, with a total of 255 wings.
Wingador was allowed back in Wing Bowl after a rules change allowed professional eaters to return.
The odds-on favorite at 2-to-1 was the two-time repeat champion "Super Squibb" from Winslow, Camden County. He was about 270 pounds lighter than the heaviest eater last time.
At 3-to-1 was El Wingador, from Woodbury, who has won about six times.
But another eating legend, Big Daddy, told Fox 29 that pro eaters were at the contest, possibly masking their identiies.
Big Daddy (accompanied by adult actress Mary Carey) said he ate 100 wings and could noy get out of round one. And he recoginized some familiar faces who said "threw away" the competitive eating contracts to enter Wing Bowl.
Kobayashi, the competitive eater from Japan who often wins the Nathans Hot Dog context in New York each year was there but didn't compete. Instead, he attempted to eat a regulation Philadelphia cheese steak in 45 seconds – three seconds less than the record.
Kobayashi took just 24 seconds to eat the cheesesteak!
