PHILADELPHIA - The legendary local eater El Wingador has hung up his bib and retired again from the Wing Bowl.

Bill Simmons was on 94.1 WIP on Monday morning and he told the station, which organizes the huge eating event in Philadelphia, that he has retired from competitive eating at the age of 50.

El Wingador had nothing but praises for Takeru Kobayashi, who smashed the Wing Bowl record last Friday. Simmons said the competitive eater from Japan was a good person and the best wing eater on the planet.

Simmons also said Kobayashi would defeat this biggest rival, Joey Chestnut, in a head-on wing-eating match because Kobayashi had a much better technique of eating wings.

Simmons retired several years ago but came back to take on local challenger Super Squibb.

Both men were humbled last Friday by Kobayashi.

Kobayashi delivered the record many people expected in Wng Bowl 20 with 337 wings eaten. Super Squibb came in second with 271 wings. El Wingador was third with 250 wings.

About 20,000 people have poured into the center to witness at all.
