Heather Mitts Talks Soccer On GDP

PHILADELPHIA - Soccer star Heather Mitts has recently joined The Philadelphia Independence Soccer Team.

She has a big game this weekend and hopes soccer fans of all ages will come to the game.

Mitts says "the soccer presence is here for sure." Soccer is quickly gaining popularity in the United States and she believes it's just a matter of time before soccer is huge among fans in the U.S. "We're not as mainstream, but everytime the World Cup comes around you see all these people come around."

Some people get turned off by the slow pace of soccer games and low scoring games. But Mitts explained true fans appreciate the pace and she's a defender "so I don't want people scoring on me,"

Mitts started playing soccer 26 years ago. "It's crazy, I love it, I'm very fortunate."

Mitts wants to get more young people involved and invites soccer enthusiasts to a game this weekend. The Philadelphia Independence Women's Professional Soccer team and United Sports are teaming up for the July 24th game against Sky Blue FC.
