Fox 29 General manager Patrick Paolini voices his opinion on the Pledge of Allegiance in schools.
Here is the text of Paolini's editorial:
Something unfortunate happened on another network during their coverage of the U.S. Open golf championship in our nation's capital last weekend.
The opening feature meant to celebrate patriotism - took some editing liberties with something we should all hold dear - the pledge of allegiance.
The words "under god" and "indivisible" somehow just didn't make the cut.
They apologized, but fell short, since once again the network failed to reference the missing words.
This made me stop and think about what it means to be patriotic, and how the shared love of our country should serve as a common bond to help unite America.
Reciting the pledge at the beginning of the school day used to be standard practice in our country, and still is at H.B. Wilson Elementary in Camden.
Does your child recite the pledge every day? I salute all of the principals and teachers who make sure their students recite the pledge each day and I urge education and community leaders in districts that don’t to reinstate this symbolic and unifying practice.
One nation under god, indivisible can only be viewed as a good faith effort to unite us all.
