A source has told Fox 29 News that Brian Dawkins has signed a deal with the Denver Broncos.
The signing was first reported on the San Francisco Chronicle Web site.
Fox 29 spoke with a second source in Denver to confirm that
report.
Dawkins has been with the Eagles since 1996 and was the
acknowledged leader of the team.
The Eagles now face a publicity nightmare after letting
Dawkins go while sitting on more that $40 million in salary cap
money.
The Eagles are expected to make a contract offer to Stacy
Andrews, the brother of Shawn Andrews.
But the team isn't expected to pursue other high-priced free
agents.
Also, it looks like former Eagles players Correll Buckhalter
and L.J. Smith might have new homes.
Buckhalter is also meeting with the Broncos, while L.J. Smith
is in Atlanta talking with the Falcons.
If the Eagles sign Stacy Andrews, it would likely end the
Eagles' career of Jon Runyan, since Andrews and Runyan play the
same position.
Former Eagles tackle Tra Thomas remains unsigned.
