Neshaminy Teachers Hit The Picket Line

Strike Affects 9,000 Children, Their Parents

LANGHORNE, Pa. - Teachers in the Neshaminy School District left their classrooms empty Monday and hit the picket line.

After years of contract stalemates, the district's teachers say they've had enough.

This strike is affecting about 9,000 children and their parents at the 12 schools in the Langhorne and Levittown areas of Bucks County.

Teachers in the district have been working without a contract for four years now. Salary and healthcare are the main sticking points. They say now is the time for action.

District administrators said over the weekend that they have support from parents and they didn't plan to hold any new talks before Monday.

The school board says the teachers union isn't thinking about the bigger picture – the economy, and the students.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley was there as teachers picked up their signs and began their strike Monday morning.
