HATBORO, Pa. - An orphan from that Haitian rescue flight to Pittsburgh last week has settled into his new home in Hatboro, Montgomery County.
Carolyn Simon was in the process of adopting 7-year-old Wadner when the earthquake struck near the Port-Au-Prince orphanage where he lived.
Wadner was among more than 50 orphans airlifted to safety.
The adoption process will continue, but for now Wadner is considered a refugee, and Simon, his sponsor.
"I wanted him. I wanted a child. So, it's not that I wanted to be this hero," Simon said. "You know, I wanted a child, and he was the one for our family … Yeah, he's my blessing. Everyone says, 'God bless you.' No. He's been my blessing."
Simon said she wants to give Wadner the love and stability he needs.
There will be some hurdles to overcome; the boy speaks Creole, but she does not.
