PHILADELPHIA - Don't forget you can celebrate the first day of spring Friday with some free water ice.
This is the 17th year that Rita's Water Ice has been giving away a free, regular size "Italian Ice" to each and every guest for the past 16 years. Hundreds of thousands of people come out each year.
Friday's event takes place from noon to 10 p.m. at participating Rita's locations. Click here to find your closest Rita's.
Some people who couldn't wait until then made their way before 9 a.m. to the Fox 29 Studios in Old City to help celebrate. Meteorologist Sue Serio was joined by Mayor Michael Nutter -- who was leaving after an appearance on "Good Day Philadelphia -- outside at a makeshift Rita's stand on Market Street.
