ABINGTON, Pa. - A gambling investigation brought local and federal authorities to a lavish home in Montgomery County on Wednesday.
Investigators dug up the backyard of a home in the Meadowbrook section of Abington Township tied to Joseph and John Mastronardo.
The law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, were apparently looking for PVC pipes stuffed with cash.
The two brothers were arrested in 2006 in a federal bookmaking scheme. They forfeited about $2.7 million dollars as part of a plea agreement.
Joseph Mastronardo is the son-in-law of former Philadelphia Mayor Frank Rizzo.
No charges have been filed, but Fox 29's Dave Schratwieser reported on "Good Day" that both Mastronardos had their bail revoked Wednesday night as part of this investigation being led by Montgomery County authorities.
Schratwieser reported , "From what we understand, they removed long PVC pipes stuffed with cash, we're told, that had caps on each end and were buried underground. Now, how they knew about that, where they're getting that information from, nobody's talking at this particular point."
How much money did the dig turn up?
"I'm told it could be millions," Schratwieser said.
