PHILADELPHIA - An "Easter Cross" causes controversy and threatens Reading's Skyline. The Problem: The Cross on the city-owned William Penn Memorial Fire Tower has lit up on time this year despite threats of a lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union.
The ACLU is not the only one demanding the cross be removed because they feel it goes against the church-state clause under the Constitution, so are another group and some Reading residents.
"I might have an objection if I were let's say Jewish, or Muslim or something like that, because there is no representation of other religions," a neighbor told Fox 29.
While the Cross was erected 50 years ago, the ACLU and a lawyer for the Humanist Center tell us, they teamed up after a resident recently objected to the Cross and insisted the city not display it.
Nefertiti Jaquz reported Saturday that "person would be named in the suit."
