Firefighter, Son Charged With Murder In Road-Rage Case

PHILADELPHIA - Murder charges have now been filed against a longtime Philadelphia firefighter and his son in connection with a road-rage beating case.

Police said Gerard Shaffer got upset when the victim, Mark Wallace, was walking across the street too slowly, prompting the April 8 incident.

Shaffer and his 21-year-old son, also named Gerard, allegedly got out of the car and started beating Wallace, who died Wednesday, police said.

Shaffer has been suspended from the fire department with the intent to dismiss.

His lawyer says the death was accidental and claims Wallace was the aggressor.
