MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Police are hunting for a college campus killer in Connecticut.
A disguised man shot and killed a bookstore worker with ties to the Philadelphia area Wednesday near the campus of Wesleyan University.
The victim, Johanna Justin-Jinich, was a Colorado resident who graduated from the Westtown School, a private boarding school in Chester County.
Police scoured the area with dogs and assault rifles but have yet to locate their suspect, 29-year-old Stephen Morgan.
By Thursday morning, police said investigators uncovered a connection between Justin-Jinich and Morgan, and her shooting was not a random act. A New York police report shows he threatened her in 2007.
Justin-Jinich filed a harassment complaint that July against Morgan, claiming that he was calling her repeatedly and sent her insulting emails for at least a week. In one e-mail, Morgan allegedly said Justin-Jinich was "going to have a lot more problems down the road."
Morgan had apparently already left the city at the time the complaint was filed and was not arrested.
Police warned Thursday that Morgan may be targeting the university and the Jewish community, and they've launched a nationwide manhunt for him. They don't know if he's still in the Middletown area, and said he has past connections to New York, Colorado and Massachusetts.
Meanwhile, Westtown's headmaster, John Baird, said he spent hours Wednesday informing people at the Quaker boarding school that one of their graduates is a murder victim.
Baird said Justin-Jinich was an honor student who participated in tennis and dance at Westtown.
