ORLANDO, Fla. - A 9-year-old Bucks County girl has been reunited with her father near Disney World after her mother allegedly made a hoax 911 call claiming they had been abducted. The investigation into what set off this bizarre series of events continues.
A police spokesman says Julia Rakoczy started crying when her father Anthony arrived Thursday afternoon at the Orange County Sheriff's Office. She flew back to Philadelphia with her father Thursday evening, and police escorted them off the plane.
Department spokesman Jim Solomons says Julia is "very concerned" for her mother, Bonnie Sweeten, after seeing her arrested at their hotel in Disney World.
Sweeten remains jailed in Orlando without bail. She'll be extradicted back to Bucks County to face charges of false reports and identity theft in connection with an abduction hoax that set off an Amber Alert. She has a court hearing Friday morning in Florida.
Authorities continue to investigate allegations of theft made against Sweeten, a 38-year-old mother of three from Feasterville, Pa.
So far, Sweeten is only charged with false reports and identity theft. Police say she drained several bank accounts, took a co-worker's driver's license, faked a 911 call about being stuffed in a car trunk and boarded a flight with her daughter to Disney World.
The call touched off a frantic search for the pair that ended 30 hours later when police handcuffed Sweeten as she and the child returned to their hotel at the amusement park.
So why did this happen? We're hearing more stories about domestic problems, health issues and mounting debt on a home in Feasterville - possibly more than a half million dollars in debt, reported Fox 29's Dave Schratwieser.
There are also allegations that Sweeten was siphoning money from a lawfirm and a charitable organization that she worked for. Sources say she tried to repay the money in the days leading up to the chain of events and wrote a rather large check, somewhere in the range of $280,000 that was due to be cashed on Wednesday.
As soon as authorities can arrange it, Bonnie Sweeten will be brought back to Bucks County to face charges.
As for the investigation into what lead up to this, that's continuing as is the investigation into allegations of missing money and Sweeten's alleged role in that.
