PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police say DNA tests have implicated a man questioned by police in the rape of an 11-year-old girl.
Capt. John Darby of the Special Victims Unit made the announcement at a news conference Tuesday afternoon.
Darby says DNA evidence taken from the victim matched that of 26-year-old Jose Carrasquillo. Darby expects Carrasquillo to be charged Wednesday with rape and other charges as well as indecent assault for an alleged attack on a 16-year-old girl earlier that same day.
Carrasquillo was beaten by angry residents a week ago after police identified him as a "person of interest" in the case.
That was after the girl was brutally raped on her way to school in the city's Kensington section June 1.
Carrasquillo is being held on an unrelated warrant.
