CLAYMONT, Del. - New Castle County police have released a sketch of a man who they say attempted to lure an 11-year-old girl into his car.
It happened at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in Claymont.
Investigators say the girl was walking north on Green Street, in the area of the Claymont Library, when she went passed a dark-colored older model SUV. That's when an elderly male suspect came from the driver’s side while holding a cane.
The suspect asked the girl to go with him so she could play with his granddaughter, say police. When the girl refused, he offered her candy, telling her it was okay and they wouldn't tell anyone.
While the man was trying to convince her to get into the vehicle, the girl saw a second person sitting inside whose face was covered by a hooded sweatshirt.
She then ran off as the elderly man started to slowly move toward her.
Anyone with information is urged to call the New Castle County Police Department at (302) 395-8110.
