Arrest In Elderly Woman's Rape, Slaying

UPPER DARBY, Pa. - An Upper Darby man is under arrest, accused of raping and killing his 84-year-old neighbor.

Jane Morgan's body was found in her apartment by a friend on Sept. 9, 2008.

Investigators first thought she might have died of natural causes but later determined she had died after a struggle and that she was a victim of a sexual assault.

Police said 61-year-old Billy Williams, who also lived in the Long Lane Apartments, was arrested Monday after his DNA matched evidence from the scene. Police say Williams had a history of violent crimes.

"Even animals don't kill for sexual gratification. This guy killed not only for robbery, but he killed for sexual gratification,” said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood.

Williams hung his head and declined to comment to reporters when he was led out of his arraignment Monday evening.
