Taxi Cab Hits Woman On Bike, Takes Off

Police Search For Cab, Say It Was Storming At Time

Police said a taxi driver hit a woman on a bicycle in South Philadelphia and then sped off.

Now, officers are searching for the driver who sent the woman to the hospital.

The woman was struck around 1 a.m. by a northbound cab at the corner of Broad and Federal streets early Tuesday morning, police said.

She was later reported to have been treated and released from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Police said it's possible the driver didn't even know the woman was struck because a rain storm was occurring at that time. They are looking for an Olde City Taxi cab that is black and white and has sustained front-end damage.

Philadelphia Parking Authority officials plan to try and find the cab using a more technological approach later Tuesday morning.

Each of the city's 1,600 medalion cabs are equipped with GPS devices, and using that inspectors can pinpoint which cabs are in an area at a specific time, Fox 29's Julie Kim reported.
