Philadelphia - Tourists tried to make the best of yet another wet day, pulling out ponchos and umbrellas on Independence Mall.
"Oh, I wish it would go away. We're here for 1 day and it's raining," said Gigi Pryor a tourist from Maryland.
Others we're going to let a little precipitation spoil their
fun.
Carol Surprenant is visiting relatives. She’s from
Connecticut, “No, rain doesn't bother us, we've got our
umbrellas."
What a disappointing day for vendors at the 2nd Street Festival
in Northern Liberties on Saturday, where sales were few and hard to
come.
"We've sold one book. We're very excited about our potential.
We think we'll double our sales at least by the end of the
day,” said Josh McIlvain.
Two books that sure would be lousy sales, but at least a good
of humor will help thru a day or even a month like this.
The Asian Festival at Penn's Landing was cancelled, while across
the river Jimmy Buffet fans were feeling no pain.
"So you guys aren't letting a little rain spoil your fun?"
"Absolutely not! It's all about Jimmy," said a Parrot Head.
All this wet weather has left a lot of us asking, where's summer? We're more than half way thru June and it seems as if we've had nothing but rain.
"Is it global warming? That's what I want to know. Is it like the polar ice caps going up and just falling on us? I'm terrified," asked Kagiso Reed, who was just kidding around.
I can't answer that, but I do know it's rained 14 out of the past 20 days. That's 70% of the time. And our rainfall is almost twice the normal amount for the entire month of June. April and May were exceptionally rainy as well.
A tourist from Texas told me they could use the rain. Guess
what? I'd be happy to send it to them.
