SEPTA Arrives On Google Maps

Schedules, Itineraries Added To Online Map Feature

PHILADELPHIA - Transit riders in the Philadelphia region will now be able to get schedule information through Google's popular online maps feature.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority made the announcement Tuesday.

SEPTA serves Philadelphia and its surrounding counties and averages about 1 million riders a day.

Riders will be able to get schedules for regional rail lines, subway lines and trolley routes on Google Maps. SEPTA hopes to add bus and trackless trolley schedules later this year.

The service will automatically show SEPTA itineraries as an alternative to driving directions when they are available.

SEPTA officials say they will also start issuing travel alerts on Twitter, the Internet messaging system.

Transit agencies in New York and Chicago also have partnered with Google.
