JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Police officers are holding a vigil at the North Jersey hospital where two officers are in critical condition.
Eight officers in all were hurt – five of them shot – and two suspects were killed in the running gunfight that erupted after a stakeout Thursday morning.
Police said they were watching a vehicle suspected of being used in an armed robbery at 5 a.m. Friday when one officer was shot in the leg.
The suspect, armed with a pump-action shotgun, and his female partner then barricaded themselves inside a residence where they waited for the other officers and opened fire on them as they came inside.
