Police investigating a Montgomery County teen's sexual assault spot a "person of interest" on surveillance video from the WalMart where she had been shopping.
Now, they're asking for the public's help to identify the man seen on the video.
The attack occurred Monday afternoon in the woman's home on the 2400 block of Harrier Drive in Lower Providence Township's Audubon section, police said. She dialed 911 at 4:52 p.m.
The victim told police she saw a white male driving a new silver car following her during the drive home. But when she pulled into her driveway, the silver car kept going.
The woman went inside and was home alone in her bedroom for a short time when she heard a noise.
"I go up to my room, and I'm changing. I lock the door by habit. And then I hear footsteps. I think it's my dad, so I open the door, and then he just comes in," the 19-year-old told Fox 29's Claudia Gomez on Wednesday.
"... It was really scary. I thought at first it was some sort of mistake or, like, a joke," said the woman, whose identity we're protecting. "I didn't freak out until after he had come into my room and I realized what was happening."
Police said the man -- who apparently got in through an unlocked garage door -- pushed the victim onto her bed, where he sexually assaulted her for approximately 15 minutes before fleeing the house.
The woman said she was able to talk the man out of doing any serious physical harm to her.
"I persistently asked him questions, and I think eventually something must have got to him ‘cause he started sweating, he was really nervous,” said the victim. "So I just used that, I just stayed calm, I kept talking to him and asking him questions. 'What happened to you? Like, what's making you do this? You don't have to do this.'"
"At one point, he asked me if I was trying to psychoanalyze him," recalled the woman. "I wasn't that afraid after a while because he was like, really really nervous, and I could tell that at moments he just wanted to go. So I felt like, if I just kept it up, he would just leave...He said,’ I would say I'm sorry, but I know that wouldn't mean anything.’"
The man was described as being 30- to 35-years-old, with very short, brown hair, wearing a white T-shirt, tan shorts and flip-flops.
Police said the teen did not require medical treatment.
Investigation revealed she was followed home from the WalMart on the 500 block of South Trooper Road in West Norriton Township.
Police said surveillance from the store shows a man matching the description the victim gave walking around the store and watching her.
When she leaves the store, the man is seen following her car out of the parking lot.
Police said the man on the video is a "person of interest." Anyone with information on his identity is asked to call the Lower Providence Township Police Department Detective Division at 610-539-5900.
