PHILADELPHIA - Say hello to the ‘Plan C' doomsday budget.
A spokesman for Pennsylvania House Speaker Keith McCall (D - Carbon County) tells Fox 29’s Bruce Gordon that a vote on legislation designed to help Philadelphia solve its budget crisis will not happen anytime next week.
The city was hoping for a Monday approval from the House to raise its sales tax and defer pension payments, measures that would raise $700 million over the next five years.
But we've learned the House will spend next week dealing only with state budget issues.
The spokesman tells Gordon that “barring an epic breakthrough” on the state budget, there will be no vote on the Philadelphia legislation.
Without quick approval of the tax and pension bill, Mayor Nutter will have to proceed with plans to lay off 3000 city workers and drastically cut city services.
