14-Month-Old Critical After Stabbing

Camden police say they've charged a man for stabbing a 14-month-old boy in the head, critically injuring him.

It happened shortly after 3 a.m. Friday at a home on the 3200 block of Mt. Ephraim Avenue.

25-year-old Ponciano Garcia allegedly stabbed the toddler during an argument with the child's mother.

The boy was taken to Cooper University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition after undergoing surgery.

Police say they found Garcia hiding in a neighbor's home. He's charged with 2nd Degree Criminal Attempted Homicide, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Hindering Apprehension.

He's being held at the Camden County Jail in default of $1 million bail. Police did not know if he had retained a lawyer.
