Update: Stolen ATM, Truck Found Torched

The heist took place at Delaware County Memorial Hospital, located on Lansdowne Avenue in Drexel Hill.

Security cameras captured the two men, armed with a clipboard and hand truck, heading down the hall to the New Day Café, reported Fox 29's Joyce Evans. It took them two minutes to load up the ATM and walk back to the second-floor elevator. They blended right in.

"Never spoke to anybody, never interacted with anybody," says Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood. "Looked like they were business people. Anybody that saw them probably figured, 'Hey, there were just removing the machine.' No idea that they were committing a crime."

The ATM, from the Franklin Mint Credit Union, may have contained as much as $96,000.

A couple of hours passed before the bank or the police knew a crime had been committed. By then, the white Econoline Van had nonchalantly come and gone.

"They knew what they were doing. They had knowledge of the hospital," says Chitwood. "The timing was perfect, just before visiting hours ended, holiday."

Police say the suspects knew how to remove the machine without setting off any alarms. A representative from the Franklin Mint Credit Union came out to check the ATM after it appeared to have taken a routine power surge.

"When they got there, there was no machine," says Chitwood.

And no apparent tracking device, according to police.

"It was a well-planned, very sophisticated operation. One white man, one black man. The van's nondescript, you see a hundred of them a day driving all through the highways," says Chitwood.

Anyone with information is asked to call Upper Darby Police at 610-352-7050.
