Young Phillies Fan: I Dropped The Ball

PHILADELPHIA - A Phillies fan scooped up his first foul ball and handed it over to his young daughter - only to watch her throw it back onto the field.

The hilarious and touching moment happened during Tuesday night's game against the Washington Nationals at Citizens Bank Park.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Phillies outfielder Jayson Werth hit a foul ball towards the 300 level.

Steve Monforto, a father of two from Laurel Springs, N.J., leaned over the railing and made an impressive catch. He shared it with 3-year-old daughter Emily who then immediately tossed it down to the lower decks. After initial shock, he embraced his daughter in a hug.

"You're a little kid, you dream of catching a foul ball. When you grow up, it doesn't go away. And so I caught it, I was very excited and I handed it to Emily, which I knew I would do all along," says Steve.

When we asked little Emily why she threw the ball, she replied "I dropped it!" and "Just cause."

"I couldn't have been mad. I didn't want her to think that she had done something wrong," says dad.

The Phillies replaced the Monforto ball right away.

Fox 29's Julie Kim spoke with the family who's getting a lot of national attention.
