Investigators said police received a call that 36-year-old George Rogers, of the 4000 block of Dayton Road, was hiding with the weapons in a closet in his mother's house.

When police arrived, they are directed by the mother to the room where the man was hiding.

The lead officer protected himself with a shield and entered the room, police said, when the suspect fired the crossbow at the officers. He then repeatedly tried to strike Officer Dan Lanni with the sword, but the officer was able to take a defensive position behind the shield.

Officers used a Taser to subdue Rogers, who faces charges of attempted murder, terroristic threats and related charges.

"We dubbed George Rogers 'The Last Samurai', cause he ain't gonna be stabbing or swinging knives and trying to kill cops for a long period of time to come," said Upper Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood at a press conference Monday.

Rogers was ordered held in the Delaware County Prison on $75,000 bail.
