Kate Gosselin Gets One-Hour Special

PHILADELPHIA - The apparent end of “Jon & Kate Plus 8” may be a one-hour special with Kate Gosselin next Monday night.

The network announced the special at the end of last night’s episode of the once-popular TV show.

The special on October 26 will focus on Kate Gosselin talking about her life and answering viewer questions about her family. The network has not scheduled an episode for November 2.

The show is also asking viewers to submit their favorite moments from the series.

TLC Asks For Viewer Moments

Last week, network official confirmed a spinoff show, “Kate Plus 8,” in on hold as Jon and Kate Gosselin sort out their divorce mess.

Ironically, the one-hour Kate special is on the same day that Jon and Kate Gosselin will be in Montgomery County family court trying to reach a financial settlement.

Two weeks ago, Jon Gosselin demanded that TLC stop filiming his children and he posted a sign at his house barring TLC cameras from the property.

TLC then filed a lawsuit lasy Friday in Maryland, whicj alleges that Gosselin hasn't met the obligations of his contract as an exclusive employee, and has appeared on other programs for pay and made unauthorized disclosures about the show.

The Gosselins starred for two years in "Jon & Kate Plus 8," which has been consumed in recent months by marital turmoil.

The New York Post reported on Thursday that TLC has canceled the show.

A TLC spokeswoman, Laurie Goldberg, said on Friday the show's longtime future remains in question.

The spinoff show “Kate Plus 8” may debut later in November, but the participation of the Gosselin children is still in doubt, as is that TV show.

The Post says network sources confirm TLC is editing previously filmed segments to create several “new” episodes of the series, so it can extend into early November.

A big series finale is then expected in mid-November.

In June, TLC doubled its episode commitment for the series to 38, after the "Jon & Kate" divorce episode drew 10.6 million viewers.

But the couple's squabbling and an historic ratings plunge led to just 17 episodes so far, a move that cost the Gosselins hundreds of thousands of dollars.

According to court papers made public by Radar Online last week, Jon and Kate Gosselin were not being paid by TLC after Jon Gosselin demanded that camera crews leave his house in Wernersville, Pa.

Last Tuesday, MyFoxPhilly was the first to report that the Gosselins had two outstanding mortgages and that the original combined balances on those mortgages exceeded $900,000.

With the family's main source of income gone, there will be more attention on the court fight over the couple's finances.

Kate Gosselin won a legal battle last week when a judge asked Jon Gosselin to return $180,000 to an escrow account.

However, Jon Gosselin also claimed last week that Kate Gosselin had $1 million stashed in various bank accounts.

The couple will be at a public hearing on October 26 in Norristown, Pa., where they hope to have a judge approve a financial settlement arranged by an arbitrator.
