PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police say a 42-year-old woman was shot dead after a group of men broke into her Kingsessing home during the early morning hours.
Police said four men wearing masks, dressed in black and carrying guns broke into the home around 3:40 a.m. Tuesday on the 6100 block of Upland Street.
According to police, the masked gunmen first ransacked the home, then shot the woman in the head and pistol-whipped her husband.
The suspects got away and the injured couple was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The woman, who authorities said is a mother, was pronounced dead at 4:40 a.m. Her name hasn't yet been released.
The man remains at the hospital getting treatment.
Detectives not only have the task of finding the armed men but also finding the motive. They remained at the scene later Tuesday morning gathering evidence and clues to try and determine if it was a robbery gone bad.
Witnesses were also being questioned away from the scene. Several neighbors declined to speak with Fox 29 News on camera.
Authorities at the scene said the woman was shot execution-style and they don't think the incident was random, but they weren't going so far as to say they believe she was targeted.
