PHILADELPHIA - Hundreds of Mummers lovers gathered Sunday in South Philadelphia for a rally to keep a city tradition alive.
Because of the city's budget crisis, the traditional New Year's Day parade is once again facing a financial problem.
The Broad Street strut won't happen if the Mummers don't get enough money.
Congressman Bob Brady said he won't let the parade just disappear.
"It was incumbent upon me to get involved to make sure that you had a Mummers Parade last year, that you have a Mummers Parade next year, and that these kids right here, we're going to have a Mummers Parade for them when they get older forever in time," Brady told the crowd.
The group "Save the Mummers" is taking donations to keep the parade alive.
A "Bacon Brothers Benefit Save the Mummers" charity concert is also planned for Dec. 5 at the Electric Factory.
