Police in Bucks County need help identifying a suspected thief they say has hit several area grocery stores and made off with thousands of dollars worth of frozen meats.

The most recent incident happened around 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Giant Food Store located at 466 2nd Street Pike in Upper Southampton.

Police say the male suspect simply bypasses the checkout counter with his cart loaded up.

He has struck at least four times, say investigators. He’s been caught on surveillance video at three different Bucks County supermarkets, stealing frozen turkeys, huge hams, jumbo shrimp, and prime cuts of beef from Genuardi's, Acme, and Giant.

The man flees the scene in a red 1980's-style Dodge pickup truck with a silver strip on the side and a ladder rack driven by a younger accomplice. The car was last seen heading toward Philadelphia, say police.

"Basically what he does is he walks up to the front door, and if nobody's looking, he goes out the front door to a waiting pickup truck, he appears to have an accomplice out there, they throw the groceries at the back of the pickup truck and leave,” says Lt. John "Ted" Krimmel of Lower Southampton Township Police. “[Store employees] see him but before they realize what he's up to, he's already out the lot."

The suspect is described as a white male, 40-50 years of age with dark hair and a receding hair line. He has a salt and pepper goatee, mustache and beard with eye glasses.

Police say they have strong leads in this case.

Lt. Krimmel is advising the man to enjoy Thanksgiving because he's likely to be spending Christmas and New Year’s locked up.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 215-364-5000 ext. 115.
