DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - The Bucks County mother who faked her own abduction and flew to Disney World with her daughter will be getting out of jail in February.
In August, 38-year-old Bonnie Sweeten was sentenced to nine-to23 months in jail for calling 911 and telling officials she and her daughter had been abducted before they turned up in Florida.
Authorities said she staged the abduction to escape a looming arrest.
On Wednesday morning, Sweeten asked and a judge agreed to put her on house arrest to serve out the rest of her prison time.
Her attorney said if Sweeten was released she would never break the law again.
"I think you saw it today. I mean, she's a woman who has a whole new perspective on life, spending the time behind bars participating in a lot of therapy, helping other inmates, and most importantly just no longer taking for granted that which we all do, kissing your kids at night, getting up and walking out your front door. When that's taken away from you, you look at life a lot differently and perhaps things like money and material assets are no longer your priority," attorney Louis Busico said.
Sweeten will be released on Feb. 27.
