Man Shot Dead Outside Airport Hotel

No Arrests Reported In 28-Year-Old's Slaying

PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating a homicide at a hotel in Southwest Philadelphia.

It happened just after 1 a.m. Thursday at the Marriott Residence Inn Hotel, across Island Avenue and about 100 yards from where US Airways parks its airplanes at Philadelphia International Airport.

The 28-year-old was found shot to death just outside the low-rise, garden-style, extended-stay hotel with several buildings, each about two stories high.

Homicide investigators remained at the scene later on Thursday morning.

Police were searching the trunk of a black Pontiac Grand Am nearby.

No arrests were reported. Police were not initially saying much about the dead man or why he might have been killed. But investigators did say their initial belief is that the shooting was not drug-related.

It's not clear whether the man was a gusest of the hotel or had some other reason to be there.

While the stretch of hotels, located where the airport's old international terminal used to be, is not known for any crime problems, Fox 29's Steve Keeley said he has reported on another slaying at the same hotel. In that case, a man was shot just outside as he came back to his room with a food order from a restaurant.
