New Jersey Republican state senator Diane Allen, a former TV
news anchor, confirms she has an aggressive form of cancer.
Allen’s office said in a statement that, “The
senator wishes to acknowledge that she has been diagnosed with an
aggressive cancer and is exploring treatment options with some of
finest doctors in the world. She expects to undergo surgery as
early as this week. She asks that the privacy of her family be
respected during this difficult time.”
Allen has represented Burlington and Camden counties since
1996, with her past 11 years in the State Senate.
She also won a highly publicized discrimination action
against CBS in 1994, after working as a news anchor at KYW and
WCAU.
Allen ran for the U.S. senate in 2002 but lost in the GOP
primary to Doug Forrester.
