PHILADELPHIA - A major mystery has ended at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
A patient known for four months only as "Jane Doe" has finally been identified. The Philadelphia Inquirer first reported that her name is Michelle Bateman. Fox 29 also spoke to a source who confirmed that information.
The woman was brought to the hospital in August after she was found unconscious in a Kensington park. She suffered a massive heart attack and currently shows no brain activity. She carried no identification in her pockets.
After seeing a newspaper article this weekend, a relative contacted the hospital.
Bateman's family spoke with the newspaper on Monday after the Inquirer and FoxNews.com both ran stories about the woman over the weekend.
For the past four months, police and hospital officials in Philadelphia were relentlessly searching for any clues to help identify the woman.
Lt. John Walker of the Philadelphia Police Department is handling the case and told Fox News the medic unit first responded and found "Jane Doe" unconscious on the side of the street in the Kensington section of the city near the intersection of Somerset Street and Kensington Avenue.
Police were hoping that someone would recognize her by either her picture, or by the tattoos.
