Lewis' Fate Could be Decided Tuesday

Jury deliberations in the penalty phase of the murder trial of John Lewis are expected to get underway Tuesday afternoon.

Lewis is accused of fatally shooting Philadelphia police officer Chuck Cassidy two years ago.

Fox 29's Steve Keeley explained the proceedings were delayed Monday because a defense attorney for John Lewis asked for a day off to attend the funeral of a close friend. Closing arguments were wrapped up Tuesday morning and the judge gave the jury its instructions. Deliberations are expected to begin around 1:00pm.

23-year-old Lewis could face the death penalty after being convicted of first-degree murder last week in the shooting death of Officer Cassidy.

Cassidy died a day after Lewis shot him in the head when the veteran officer walked in on a robbery on Oct. 31, 2007.
