The first accident happened at the intersection of Kensington Avenue and Hunting Park Avenue in the Juniata Park section of the city around 3 p.m. Thursday.

The Route 3 SEPTA bus collided with a van then crashed head-on into a support pole for the Market-Frankford elevated train line.

Service on the elevated line was not affected but the intersection was closed to traffic.

A 4-year-old boy, who was standing to get off the bus with his father, was injured after he hit his head on the fare box. He was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.

A witness at the scene described what happened to another passenger.

"The gentleman who went inside, he didn’t even get a chance to sit down. He didn’t even get a chance to sit down because he was the first one at that cash machine and when the door opened, he was the first one flying out, bleeding."

The bus driver was taken to Temple University Hospital where he underwent a CT scan.

Witnesses said the woman driving the van may have been on a cell phone.

Later Thursday, another bus ran into a 12-year-old boy.

It happened at 12th and Wallace Streets in the city's Spring Garden section just before 5:30 p.m.

The boy was taken to Jefferson Hospital with critical injuries.

There is no word yet on what caused the crash.

Both accidents are under investigation.
