Fleeing Suspect Shot By Police

Bedminister, PA - A high-speed chase on Friday night ends with bullets flying. The suspect was in a stolen vehicle, and police say the day before he rammed a state police cruiser in another stolen car. This time he didn't get away. Fox 29's Robin Taylor has the story from Upper Bucks County.

45-year-old Jonathan Fineman led police on a high-speed chase thru Bucks County that ended in gunfire. Police say the convicted burglar was reportedly armed and dangerous as he sped up Route 611 at 100 mph, before crashing in Bedminster.

Plumstead Police Chief Duane Hasenauer says Fineman ran and then turned on the officers. One of them opened fire killing him.

"This man was on a one man crime spree in Central and Upper Bucks County," said David Zellis, the First Assistant District Attorney in Bucks County.

The Bucks County Prosecutor's office says Fineman was in a stolen vehicle, but instead of pulling out a gun, he reached for a pair of industrial scissors.

"The police officer apparently fire one shot which killed the suspect."

Fineman was on a stealing spree and police were close behind. He'd escaped three times, but couldn't pull off a fourth. Investigators suspect Fineman stole four vehicles in three days, ditching one and stealing another whenever law enforcement closed in.

Police suspected Fineman was armed because he had stolen a 9mm handgun that was inside an Audi he took from Trenton Country Club, after posing as a member and stealing the keys from a locker.

"He clearly had been terrorizing these areas by committing burglaries and stealing people's cars."

The prosecutor says Fineman was wanted for several burglaries in Bucks and Montgomery Counties and for parole violations in Pennsylvania and Florida.

The police officers involved in the shooting are on desk duty pending an investigation by Bucks County Detectives.
