Fox 29’s Bruce Gordon brings us the story of St. Miriam Catholic Church, a new church in Blue Bell, PA.
This past weekend, church bulletins from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia warned parishioners that this new house of worship is engaged in what some call “false advertising.”
But why would they be accused of this?
Well, St. Miriam is not a member of the archdiocese. It belongs to the Old Catholic Church, which split from the Catholic Church over a century ago.
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia wants it’s parishioners to know this fact. According to Monsignor Michael Magee, people “. . . have the right to know if the parish to which they are going is a parish of that kind” The bulletin was aimed at clearing up any confusion.
Father St George, from St. Miriam, says his small church poses no threat to the archdiocese. He describes his church as open to all humanity and wonders why the ministry of the church cannot be shared amongst everyone.
