PHILADELPHIA - A significant crack has been found running down Philadelphia City that is big enough to see from the ground.

In the days ahead this section of City Hall will be getting lots of attention. The crack is at the base of the north face of the tower.

It runs along the front of a piece of marble and snakes under it and back toward the building.

Sources tell Fox 29 it was discovered a couple of weeks ago when pieces of crumbled marble were found on a roof below it.

At this point, experts can't be certain, but they believe it's cosmetic and doesn't represent a danger to the public walking below or to the structural integrity of City Hall.

However, they've got to close the crack to stop it from getting bigger.

So the city will get a much closer look at this crack before moving ahead with repairs.

One city official the earthquake could have caused the crack but there is no evidence to prove that yet.
