A former Philadelphia firefighter, facing 3rd degree murder charges, is out of prison. His release is causing outrage in one neighborhood.
47 year old Gerard Shaffer has been in jail since April. He and his son were charged in the road rage death of 54 year old Mark Wallace. Wallace was walking across the intersection at Knights and Fairdale Roads when, police say words were exchanged and the Shaffers got out of their car and beat Wallace. Wallace’s family removed him from life support a few days later after he suffered serious head injuries.
Shaffer’s neighbors started calling Fox 29 this morning when they saw Shaffer dropped off at his home just before 8am. Neighbors want him back in prison.
Shaffer’s lawyers have said that while Wallace’s death is tragic, it was accidental.
