ODESSA, Del. - The parents of a 7th-grader in Odessa, Del., are angry.
They say that their daughter was relentlessly bullied on Facebook by some students at Alfred G. Waters Middle School.
On Tuesday night, her parents complained to the school board because they did not find out about this bullying from the school directly. Instead, they found out from another parent.
Teachers at the middle school did hear about the Facebook bullying from another student. Counseling was offered to the teen girl but she never told her parents what was going on at school – and on Facebook.
Fox 29’s Sharon Crowley brings us the story from Middletown, DE. Sharon attended the packed school board meeting. Parents were concerned, especially in the wake of the death of Irish student Phoebe Prince in Massachusetts.
Appoquinimink Superintendent Dr. Tony Marchio heard from parents at Tuesday night’s meeting. He told Sharon, “I understand their concern and they are frightened and they are turning to us for some action. It is our responsibility to hear that and to respond to it.”
In Odessa, a parents committee is being formed to address cyber bullying.
